Google has acquired activity-tracker pioneer Fitbit to bolster its presence in the wearables market. The company's health and fitness experience, which is enjoyed by millions of its smartwatch and tracker users worldwide, will likely be integrated into Wear OS. "Made by Google" wearables should be coming soon.

"Fitbit has been a true pioneer in the industry and has created terrific products, experiences and a vibrant community of users," said Rick Osterloh, Senior Vice President, Devices & Services at Google. "We're looking forward to working with the incredible talent at Fitbit, and bringing together the best hardware, software and AI, to build wearables to help even more people around the world."

So 2.1 billion to let the company stagnate and rot.
Or to turn everything into even more of spying devices, then let the company stagnate and rot.
Ok Google.

I wouldn't be surprised if this kills the Ionic 2 (if it's even in development). I've been quite happy with moving to the Ionic from the Microsoft Band.

At least this is better than Facebook buying them, but not by much....
