Google is releasing new flagship Pixel smartphones this year with exciting improvements that range from an updated camera system to a brand-new, in-house SoC called the Google Tensor, but there’s one thing that users won’t find when they open the box.

As reported by The Verge, Google has decided that it won’t be shipping its Pixel 6 smartphones with a charger. Future Pixel smartphones won’t ship with one either; the last Pixel to include a charging brick will be this year’s cheaper Pixel option, the Pixel 5a.

Google justified the decision by explaining that most people already own a USB-C charger, so there’s no real reason to include one with its Pixel smartphones going forward. The charger is also being dropped presumably for environmental reasons, as a good bulk of them might just end up adding to the world’s e-waste.

Uh oh, someone is full of "Courage" like some kind of fruit company...

You have to love it when they try to spin a blatant cost savings move and sell it as something positive to you (environmental savings)

My biggest concern is that the charger that comes with the phone is usually the one that charges the best/fastest for whatever phone you have.

Now I am going to have to research more charger specs to make sure I get the right one.

Either way, I won't have to until 2+ years from now. I just preordered the 5a.

I'm still using the charger for my 2XL on my 5 and there is no difference in charge rate. Or for the charger of my wife's 3aXL either. They're all the same.

Yeah for a phone, the difference is going to be small, if there even is one.

For bigger items, like tablets or computers with USB-C, there can be a big difference, those can charge at some pretty high rates with relatively big batteries.
