Does anyone still play that in a un ironic way?
Yeah I still play
Doom II for fun. Been playing that and
Doom 1 since those games were new.
Doom 1,
Doom II, and
Doom 64 are among the most fun video games I have ever played in my life, and I will probably keep playing them until I'm dead.
Doom 2 is my favorite in the series. I finally played
all the way through
Doom 2 and beat it for the first time in 2019 or 2020. After that I did
Doom II: No Rest For The Living, which was also awesome. I still plan on one day going through the two
Doom II expansions in
Final Doom. I actually just went through the
Master Levels for Doom 2 (started it last year I think, but I finished it this year). Had a blast with that as well.
Between early 2016 and the end of 2020, I played through every
Doom game (except
Doom 3 cuz I don't care for that game). In 2016 I went through
Doom 1 twice (one of those times in 3P co-op). I first played and beat
Doom 64 in 2020 (including the
The Lost Levels) using the Nightdive remaster, and I did all that again this year. I played through
Doom 2016 more times than I can count. I also went through
Doom Eternal a few times (even though I don't really care for that game either). I even played
Doom Eternal: TAG Part 1 (it was crap) and
Part 2 (I left off in the middle of the last boss fight, and haven't returned to it in several months - it's not really all that good either).
In the last few years I also played John Romero's
SIGIL (which was basically
Doom 1: Episode 5) 3 times (2nd time with
Brutal Doom, 3rd time with the Buckethead soundtrack). SIGIL was f*cking awesome and I am
very much looking forward to
SIGIL 2 or whatever he's calling it (which is being made for
Doom II). I was wondering if this new level he made to support Ukraine was taken from
SIGIL 2, but it sounds like he just made it for this purpose. No idea how good this level is, but I'm sure I'll get to check it out one day. Anyways, yeah I love me some classic
Doom, and to this very day all those games still hold up incredibly well for me. In fact I think I appreciate all of them waaaaaay more than I ever did in the past.
