LG Display Announces “OLED EX” Technology, Enabling 30-Percent Boost in Panel Brightness

LG Display has teased a new generation of OLED panels that should please critics of the technology who haven’t been all that impressed with the peak brightness levels of current models.



Dubbed “OLED EX,” LG Display’s latest development will enable OLED panels with enhanced brightness levels of up to 30 percent, allowing the premium display technology is compete better against the likes of mini LED sets in the realm of HDR. Mini LED TVs are capable of hitting 2,000 nits, which is quite a bit higher than what even the flagship EVO OLED panels can muster (around 800 nits).



“The OLED EX name is an acronym of ‘Evolution’ and ‘eXperience’, which represents the company’s goal of providing customers with new experiences through its ever-evolving OLED technology,” LG Display explained in a press release shared today.

It will be nice for viewing in bright areas - my old C7 does struggle a bit when it’s full daylight if I don’t close some blinds. But only if average brightness can come up - peak brightness is already blinding, it just can’t hold that for too long before auto-dim comes into play to help prevent burn in.
 
and a 50% increase in price?
The G-series didn’t see a huge markup when they shifted to the Evo screen. Granted it has a pretty healthy markup already and doesn’t see steep discounts like the lower tiers, but they didn’t seriously jack the price up when they improved the screen either
