Metacritic to Combat Review Bombing with 36-Hour Waiting Period

Apparently, The Last of Us Part II’s recent review bombing was the last straw for Metacritic, one of the world’s most popular film, music, and video game review aggregators. Going forward, armchair reviewers will have to wait 36 hours before publishing their heated, expletive-fueled opinions regarding any new game release.



“We recently implemented the 36 hour waiting period for all user reviews in our games section to ensure our gamers have time to play these games before writing their reviews,” a Metacritic spokesperson told Gamespot. “This new waiting period for user reviews has been rolled out across Metacritic’s Games section and was based on data-driven research and with the input of critics and industry experts.”

Seems all they're gonna successfully do is delay the review bombs by 36 hours. I suspect the next "bomb" on a review will dwarf the others in comparison.

Meh,
Its getting so bad though.. its like the hotels, I've stayed in so many highly rated (for the price point) hotels only to be burned sooooo bad. All in at 200$ plus a night, with "good reviews" only to find It should have stayed at a motel 6 or some such for under 100$.
Come to read about it (because this has happened way too much) as far as hotels and reviews go, its all like super corrupt, making things useless, even aggregators of multiple sites.
Games reviews are going the same direction, except you ca still tune in to a you tuber or someone you trust for their judgement. Everything else is probably garbage, like hotels reviews and movie reviews.

Sounds like a bandaid on a wooden leg, then again I don't visit metacritic so I don't realy care one way or another.

Funnily enough, I find random opinions on games scattered across the internet far more useful than reviews of any kind.
