Nintendo has announced Metroid Dread, its first new 2D Metroid story in 19 years. Serving a direct continuation to 2002’s Metroid Fusion, the latest installment takes iconic bounty hunter Samus Aran to a remote planet called ZDR that’s overrun by “vicious alien lifeforms and chilling mechanical menaces.” Metroid Dread players will be able to enjoy classic Metroid gameplay with new abilities such as parkouring over obstacles, sliding through tight spaces, and countering enemies when the game releases for the Nintendo Switch on October 8, 2021.

Yar, looking forward to this title - can't believe it's been so long since Metroid Fusion (2002!).

Dang, I was thinking 2003, was it really 2002?!?!?!! Metroid Prime series is good and all, but I been waiting for a new mainline Metroid game for a good long time. I was hoping for pure 2D, but I figured if they ever did make another Metroid game, it would probably end up 2.5D like the recent Metroid 2 remake on 3DS. This new game looks bland as f*ck compared to the graphics/art in past games such as Zero Mission, Fusion, and even Super Metroid, but so long as the gameplay is solid, I'm down. I'm just very surprised Nintendo is announcing a Metroid 5 at all. Now can I get a new F-Zero please? And a new StarFox (SF Zero sure as f*ck doesn't count).
