Head of Xbox Phil Spencer has already made it pretty clear that Microsoft would be honoring all existing agreements upon acquisition of Activision Blizzard to keep franchises such as Call of Duty on PlayStation, but the company has doubled down on its commitment today in a new blog post pertaining to its new principled approach to app stores. Brad Smith, President and Vice Chair, confirmed in a section regarding developer choice that Activision titles such as Call of Duty would not only remain on PlayStation in the immediate future, but that they’d continue to be available on competing platforms even after the termination of existing agreements. Why say no to money.
Because you are losing out on the exclusivity, which could drive more console sales and lead to better licensing revenue as people shift to your console/device/ecosystem. Which is the traditional closed wall / curated garden approach, and the premise behind the Epic V Apple lawsuit.

Lose a penny to make a dollar.

If anti-trust wasn't involved in this merger, I have no doubt that these would all be XBox exclusives, just like every other acquisition had turned into. Even Minecraft has gone exclusive -- the original is still cross platform, but all the development and new titles are Xbox-only.

There are ways to sound like you are doing the right thing, while at the same time playing the semi-exclusive game.

For instance, they could launch with initial launch dates on Xbox and PC with Playstation to follow a few months later, and with premium features available only to PC and Xbox players. :p

I'm pretty sure Java Edition still receives updates. So while new titles might be exclusive to Xbox (haven't looked), the original is definitely still being developed.
