Microsoft Discontinues Xbox One X, Xbox One S Digital Edition Consoles

Microsoft has revealed that it will no longer produce Xbox One X and Xbox One S All-Digital Edition consoles. We don’t know if this decision has anything to do with lower-than-expected sales numbers, but it doesn’t seem all that unexpected, being that the Series X is just around the corner and manufacturing efforts need to be shifted.



“As we ramp into the future with Xbox Series X, we’re taking the natural step of stopping production on Xbox One X and Xbox One S All-Digital Edition,” a Microsoft spokesperson told The Verge. “Xbox One S will continue to be manufactured and sold globally.”

Well since they're sticking with x86 processors one would think it wouldn't be that difficult to make last generations games at the very least backwards compatible. And if they made software to emulate previous generations of Xbox games on the last Xbox with x86 that software should work just as well, if not better, on the newer console, right?

I mean, this is what PC gamers have been accustomed to for decades. Now the console pheasants can enjoy the benefits as well.

That's how it should work, but we still have developers who are locking framerates in an archaic way. During one of Microsoft's conferences they mentioned that some games would not be an easy transition due to the faster hardware essentially breaking them.
