Microsoft Flight Simulator Is Getting a Massive Performance Boost on PC Later This Month

Microsoft Flight Simulator will be getting a new update later this month that improves the performance of the PC version of the game dramatically. As demonstrated by Microsoft and Asobo Studio staff during a recent Twitch livestream, Microsoft Flight Simulator managed to jump from 30 FPS to 60 FPS on an Intel Core i7-9700K and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER system after Sim Update 5 was installed. Microsoft Flight Simulator’s new update also resulted in lower CPU utilization for this particular system (100 percent to 75 percent), as well as a major reduction in memory usage (16 GB to 4.7 GB). The update will be available on July 27.









Martial Bossard, an executive producer on Microsoft Flight Simulator at Asobo, confirmed the upcoming move to DirectX 12 on PC will also allow the team to enable ray tracing in the game. Effects should include...

I could have sworn I read somewhere that this is kind of B.S.

That the "massive performance increase" is just a change of default settings to include upscaling lower resolution renders (something that can already be configured in the settings menu)

No idea if it is true though.
