Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema’s Mortal Kombat reboot released to polarizing reviews last year, but thanks to a successful launch on HBO Max and a lucrative run at the box office, the companies have warmed up to another sequel based on Netherrealm Studios’ long-running fighting game franchise.



Mortal Kombat 2 was confirmed today in a new report shared by Deadline, which revealed that the sequel would be written by Jeremy Slater, the scribe behind one of Marvel Studios’ upcoming Disney+ shows, Moon Knight. It’s unclear whether Simon McQuoid, who directed the 2021 film, will be returning for the sequel, however.

I found the first to be a pretty good stupid movie - I'm also surprised, but it could certainly be alright.

I enjoyed it well enough for what it was. A sequel is surprising but not unwelcome.
 
I'm not surprised, it had a pretty successful launch for what it was, and the budget. The movie was mediocre which is far better than what I expected.
 
The first was one of those movies that’s great with a beer and pizza on a rainy day - it’s free to stream and what the hell else were you really going to do so why the hell not kind of thing.
 
I don't understand this. The first part of the movie, like for 15 min, it was cool, then it went to hell. Nothing sequel worthy.
 
Can't tell if you guys are being sarcastic or seen a different movie than I did. Pretty sure, IIRC, they left the ending wide open for a sequel. Not going to say any spoilers, but did you guys not look at who was on the poster at the end?

Now I need to go back and watch it again. Just to make sure I am not thinking of a different movie or something.
