MSI today announced a new gaming monitor, the Optix MAG281URF.

As explained in a press release shared by the manufacturer, the MAG281URF features a 4K IPS UHD panel with a 144 Hz refresh rate, which is made possible thanks to the display’s 2x HDMI 2.1 ports. Owners can also expect support for NVIDIA G-SYNC, peak brightness levels of 400 nits, and 95 percent coverage of the DCI-P3 color space.

The Optix MAG281URF’s key features, per MSI:

Rapid IPS Panel: Provide ultra-fast 1ms GTG response time, make sure the intensity and purity of colors when gaming.G-SYNC Compatible: Challenge any game without screen tearing, stuttering, flicker, or artifacts. I'm not really familliar with the Mag brand.

It looks nice, but 28" seems tiny for 4k.

The MAG stuff is just MSI's tiered branding thing. I've never liked it. They have MEG, MAG, and MPG. That said, I couldn't agree more. 28" is super tiny for a 4K and virtually pointless under 32" as far as I am concerned.

That's cuz it is.

Yupz. Zarathustra said in another thread that 4K really starts to come into its own at 40", and I tend to agree with that. 32" I have heard is the bare minimum size you wanna be at for 4K. Under that, just a waste.

I've got a 28" 4K, a 40" TV I use as a monitor and an Acer Predator CG437K 43". I have other various 4K TV's around the house I've used as monitors as well. I've tried it on everything between 28" and 65".

28" just isn't a great size for it. However, like most things it really depends on your use case. As a gaming monitor, it can work as the pixel density is nice. But, for everything else I think it sucks.

I agree that 28" would be a little small for a 4K monitor. I owned a 32" non 4K MSI monitor a while ago and it was riddled with dead pixels after a while.
