MSI has published a PSA warning enthusiasts to steer clear of https://afterburner-msi.space, a website that looks legitimate but is in no way affiliated with the Taiwanese manufacturer. The site is hosting copies of MSI’s popular overclocking software, Afterburner, which, obviously, should not be downloaded because it may be carrying a virus, trojan, keylogger, or other type of malicious program. Thanks for the information! I've been thinking about trying out MSI for a while. In my work, I have to be absolutely sure of what exactly you associate your main activity with.
How on earth do you circle from someone hosting copies of afterburner without authorization to MSI = bad?
I'm really loosing faith in humanity here.

EVGA's Precision X1, similar to MSI's Afterburner, is available on Steam
At one point it was exclusive to Steam (don't know if it still is) after being standalone for years, which is one thing made me stop using it. I'm not gonna have system utility tied to a launcher that needs me to log in to an account. Not to mention EVGA had a falling out with the creator of RivaTuner, who ended up working with the MSI Afterburner team, so I switched over to Afterburner years ago and have been happy with that since. It reminds me of what Precision used to be. I haven't used Precision in the years since, so no idea what the program is like these days. I do know that I can't control the second fan on my EVGA 1080 Ti unless I use Precision, but oh well.

I don't believe that it's exclusive to Steam. Main reason I shared is that Steam can keep it up to date and it's an official source.
