Nightdive Studios’ System Shock Remake Will Be Released Next Year

Nightdive Studios’ remake of Looking Glass’ cyberpunk action-adventure classic, System Shock, still doesn’t have a definitive release date, but it should be out sometime next year.



That’s according to a new press release shared by Koch Media, which can confirm that Prime Matter will be publishing the game for PC and consoles in 2022. Prime Matter is a brand-new publishing division that Koch Media opened up in June 2021.









“System Shock has been a true labour of love and our goal has always been to deliver a game that is as close to perfect as we can make it,” said Stephen Kick, Founder and CEO of Nightdive Studios.



“We’re excited to partner with Prime Matter to achieve that goal and see this as an important step in the growth of Nightdive Studios.”

I'm looking forward to this.

I completely missed the System Shock series the first time. Like somehow I didn't even hear about the series until 15 years after the second one came out, at which point they were so old, that I didn't think they would still be enjoyable.

I'll definitely look at a remake though.

System shock is definitely clunky and dated. It already was when the second one came out.

System Shock II however plays as any modern FPS-RPG hybrid would, the only thing dated is the graphics, especially the enemy models. But there are mods to address that. Judging by the way this remake is going (being 5 years late) I'd not wait for an SS2 remake. You don't need to have played the first to enjoy the second.
