Nintendo Releases New Trailer for Metroid Dread

Nintendo has released a second trailer for its highly anticipated Metroid game, Metroid Dread. Metroid Dread is a pretty big deal because 1) it’s a Metroid game, and 2) the game was actually in development for the Nintendo DS over a decade ago.



While that version ended up getting canceled, Metroid Dread will make its return on the much more powerful Nintendo Switch later this year when it releases in the fall. The game represents a return to the classic, 2D Metroid gameplay defined by classics such as Super Metroid, but with 3D graphics that really bring Samus to life.



Metroid Dread’s new trailer showcases the heroine’s arrival on Planet ZDR, the central location of the game. It also teases some of the powerful enemies that Samus will be going up against, which seem to include the Chozo—the bird-like species popularized by the power-up statues that have...

So good to finally be getting a new mainline Metroid game again. Metroid 4 (Fusion) came out in 2002, so it's been almost a 20-f*cking-year wait. I haven't yet played this team's previous game, the Metroid 2 remake Samus Returns, but this is looking impressive. I'm seeing some framerate slowdown, hope that's not there in the retail build.

Metroid is one of my favorite game franchises, with the 3rd game Super Metroid and the remake of the first game Zero Mission being the best games in the series, in my opinion. While I enjoyed the Prime spin-off series (especially the first one), I've long wanted a return to the main series.
