Are you ready for another NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 Series rumor? Well, we’ve got one. Prominent leaker KatCorgi has taken to Twitter with the claim that green team’s Ampere-based RTX 3080 graphics card will boast a 20-percent performance increase over the current flagship, the RTX 2080 Ti. Who knows if that figure is accurate or not, but another well-known leaker, kopite7kimi, has thrown their hat in the ring and claimed that “it’s true.”

The RTX 3080 has about 20% increase compared with RTX 2080 Ti— KatCorgi (@KkatCorgi) July 21, 2020

Okay, let’s pretend it is. Is a 20-percent performance uplift what you were...

IF this rumor is true... and the AMD rumor is true.. then a 3080 being 20% faster than a 2080ti will mean that the top tier AMD card will be 30% faster than the 3080... so if the uplift from 3080 to 3080ti is less than 30% we have a RUMOR BASED chance that AMD will have the higher performance video card for once.... at the top tier?

Even I find that hard to swallow.

I don't believe that. I think NVIDIA may certainly be able to out pace the 2080 Ti with a potential 3080 by 20% given that the supposed 3090 or 3080 ti will be upwards of 35-40% faster than the existing 2080 Ti. Even if its not that much faster, it still makes the rumor of a 20% faster 3080 somewhat plausible.

For AMD, I have trouble believing that a Big Navi variant will be 50% faster than a 2080 Ti or whatever stupid **** was said about it. Even if RDNA 2 is heavily reworked, it's still iterative, and efficiency was not Navi's forte. As a result, it's hard to imagine scaling that up to the necessary degree to challenge the top end Ampere part.

Oh I agree sadly @Dan_D , but I was just using rumor numbers... a bit tongue in cheek. ;)

Well rumor also says AMD themselves don't believe they will be able to beat 3080ti... So its all about price price price.

I think that if AMD can bring us a Navi variant that can hit 85-90% of the 3080 Ti's performance at a lower price point, they won't be able to keep them on the shelves.

Sounds good to me, now to see if it is true and then decide 3080 or 3080ti.

I will wait for the reviews and decide if it's worth the premium that will be imposed

Nice, but what really matter is the price of the 3080ti/3090 (whatever they decide to name it).
If its too high I'll give this gen a miss and stick with 1440p and my 1080ti.
What a card!

No doubt the 1080Ti has a LOT of life left in it. It's still a beast of a card. I'll probably put it in my wife's 1800X rig and sell the Quadro that's in there since she doesn't do CAD work on it anymore.
