Oculus Quest VR Headsets to Drop Facebook Account Requirement Next Year

Oculus Quest 2 owners will no longer require a Facebook account in order to use their VR headsets next year. This is according to VP of AR/VR at Facebook, Andrew Bosworth, who shared a post on his feed indicating that this controversial requirement will be dropped next year. No exact date was given, but Bosworth promised that the team was looking into new ways for Quest users to log in without having to sign up for the world’s biggest social network.

As we’ve focused more on work, and as we’ve heard feedback from the VR community more broadly, we’re working on new ways to log into Quest that won’t require a Facebook account, landing sometime next year. This is one of our highest priority areas of work internally.

They are also dropping the brand name Oculus, moving over to the new Meta brand.
 
It won't require a Facebook account...

It will require a Meta account! :p

Seriously, we need to END the practice of any hardware being tied to an online account.

All hardware must operate independent of the Internet or anything on the internet.

Accounts are just a way to spy on you.

If hardware requires an account, any account, I simply won't buy it.

Also, I'm still more interested in Vive offerings than anything Oculus.

I've been saying this for years, but I havent actually gotten around to buying anyhthing VR yet, in large part due to simply not having the space for a "room scale" setup.
