ViacomCBS and Paramount held its investors event yesterday, and it was a pretty eventful one that included news regarding some of the companies’ biggest franchises.

They include a new Star Trek film, which, according to an exclusive report from Deadline, will enter production this year and likely reunite many of the cast members from the modern reboots, including Chris Pine (James Kirk) and Zachary Quinto (Spock). J.J. Abrams has confirmed that the movie will be helmed by Matt Shakman, the director behind Disney and Marvel Studios’ WandaVision series.

Star Trek’s most recent silver-screen attempt was Star Trek Beyond, a film by Justin Lin (Fast Five) that saw the partial destruction of the Enterprise and the introduction of new allies such as Sofia Boutella’s Jaylah. The movie underperformed at the box office, managing only $343 million...

A 3rd Sonic movie and a Knuckles spin-off?!?!?!?!?! SOMEONE F*CKING STOP THIS TRAIN!!!!!!!!!!

No!!!!! Not another Star Trek film. Bad Reboot and Jar Jar Abrams have no business touching that IP.

Not another JJ Lens Flare Star Trek, please. Beyond was the nail in the coffin.

I like the first one, the second one was so-so, Beyond was hot garbage.

Star Trek usually is a bit too -- high minded? Morally centered? Idealistic? for my tastes.

The original, with Kirk, where he seemed to have some internal conflict - he was a bad boy at heart, and mostly reigned in by the Federation -- that tension made for some interest. And then we got to see him change as he aged and his perspective changed over time. But most every other one - the captains all feel like goody-two-shoes stooges for the Federation. At least to me, as a casual watcher who never got all that into the lore.

The new Pine Kirk doesn't really revive the same feeling that Shattner gave it. It came close in the first reboot, but yeah, it mostly turned into a special effects machine and didn't really hold my interest.

I despise the new Star Trek timeline and as for another Sonic movie, all individuals that are affiliated with these travesties, should be beaten with bags of nickels and flogged with bleach rubbed into the wounds

It's not for everyone. Unfortunately, the new stuff is nothing like classic Trek. It's not even good action based sci-fi. It has absolutely nonsensical plots and only serves as a vehicle for: "The message."
