PlayStation VR2 to Deliver 800 PPI Resolution per Eye

Sony’s next-generation VR headset is going to boast some major upgrades over its predecessor, particularly in the display department.



That’s according to Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, who shared a new report revealing that the PlayStation VR2 will leverage two 2000 x 2040 panels that offer 800 PPI resolution per eye. This is a significant improvement over Sony’s current headset, which features a 5.7-inch, 1920 x 1080 display with a comparably limited PPI of just 386.



As we published today in the DSCC Weekly Review, the Sony PSVR2 will have over 800 PPI resolution per eye with two 2000 x 2040 panels, up from 5.7″ 1920 x 1080 with 386 PPI in the PSVR for both eyes. Big improvement. State of the art direct view OLED resolution.— Ross Young (@DSCCRoss) January...

That's definitely an improvement - it's also 8MP, very similar to 4k in terms of pixels needing to be drawn, and of course you're going to want a consistent 90FPS+ for VR.
