MSI, the world-leading gaming components manufacturer, proudly announces its partnership with premium liquid cooling system company EK. Together, they will co-operate the new selection for the latest Intel Z490 motherboard for socket 1200 – MSI MPG Z490 CARBON EK X.

“MSI and EK have worked closely for four years now. Always trying to push the limits, to set the bar higher… Our first collaboration was a liquid-cooled GPU, Sea Hawk EK X. I wonder how these motherboards with included monoblocks perform cooling wise.

When you buy a motherboard and attach a separate monoblock, usually they perform worse than just a standalone CPU block, giving you higher core temps. This presumably has to do with all the difficult tolerances involved between the mating surface of the CPU and the surfaces of the VRM's not lining up the same on every board.

I wonder if this is better on boards that are purposely built and shipped with a dedicated monoblock...

...or if we even care anymore these days when overclocking is becoming less and less of a thing due to shrinking process nodes, and stock specs being closer and closer to the silicon limit due to better binning processes than in the past.
