XboxEra’s Nick “Shpeshal_Nick” Baker shared rumors a few months back suggesting that id Software was developing a new Quake title in collaboration with Wolfenstein studio MachineGames. There appears to some major truth to that.

As spotted by XboxEra before it was taken down, Bethesda shared a schedule for its upcoming Quakecon event that confirmed the Quake franchise would be making its grand return courtesy of MachineGames. Jerk Gustafsson, one of the studio’s founders, will be discussing a “revitalized edition” of the game during a “Let’s talk Quake” event regarding the series’ iconic legacy.

This seems to indicate that Baker’s sources were correct. According to Baker’s original report, the new Quake game will feature a female protagonist unlike the earlier titles, which starred male Rangers (the 1996 original was voiced by Trent...

Hey, that's not Mynx...

New Quake huh? Maybe. But all I know is the engine they use in the Doom reboots screws with my head big time, I can't take it. I did make it through 2 of the Wolf games without barfing though, so maybe they use different engines...

just googled, Doom uses id7 and Wolf uses id5

I came here for the wailing and gnashing of teeth about having a female lead in a revamp because the studio has gone 'woke' or whatever it is that crowd calls it. I'm disappointed but I'm sure they will make an appearance. ;)

Revitalized edition? Sounds like some vitamin pills. Not exciting.

Couldn't you already change the player avatar to female in the original? Or was that only in Unreal? I don't remember.

I always take it for granted that there are ulterior motives for announcements of "female leads" in games where the player character is non-speaking and can never be seen. So bold, like there has never been a game with a female lead ever! I'm just tired of the gaslighting.

Hate to dissappoint. Blue hair aside, the "female lead" has a 5 o'clock shadow.

You can't discriminate against trans LGNAHWOMNDS+++)_! people. If she wants to identify as a chick, she can.

I don't recall dialog, or seeing the player character in Quake 1,2, or 4. Pretty sure Q3A had male and female player models.

A new Quake game huh? Single-player focused like 2 and 4? Well, I hope it uses idTech 7.

just googled, Doom uses id7 and Wolf uses id5
Wolfenstein: The New Order uses idTech 5. Doom 2016 uses idTech 6, which Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus also uses. Doom Eternal uses idTech 7.

Or was that only in Unreal? I don't remember.
If I recall correctly, Unreal 1's player-character was only female, but you could choose from a few different character models.
