Microsoft has launched a preview version of Quake 4 for Xbox Insiders on Windows PC, prompting surprise and confusion among fans of the classic sci-fi first-person shooter series due to the age of the game, which was originally launched by the developers at RavenSoft and id Software over a decade ago in 2005.

For anyone wondering - this works!

Quake 4 was a pretty fun blast-through, with a more sci-fi oriented theme. Only have two complaints so far - doesn't support widescreen resolutions (so you play with black vertical bars) and framerate appears to be capped around 60FPS.

I played through Quake 4 back on my Opteron 165/nForce 4 machine. I think I was running a GeForce 7900 GT back then (or maybe that was after EVGA replaced my broken card with a 7950 GT). Not a bad game. At least, that's what I remember. I haven't touched it since. We also used the game for LANParties a few times back in the day.
