Why people keep buying the Meta headsets is beyond me.

Any hardware that requires a online sign-in to function, is an automatic no-go for me.

If I were shopping for a VCR Headset it would probably be the HTC Vive Pro 2 or a Valve Index (though I fully admit I am not fully read up on the latest headsets out there, so this may be slightly out of date)
