Samsung Announces 980 PRO SSD with PS5-Compatible Heat Sink

Samsung has announced that it will be releasing a new version of its popular 980 PRO PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD that comes paired with a heat sink. Marketed toward PlayStation 5 owners, Samsung’s heat sink features a clean design reminiscent of a wire channel and advanced heat dissipation technology for keeping temperatures in check. The SSD will be available beginning on October 29, 2021 in 1 TB and 2 TB capacities at an MSRP of $249.99 and $449.99, respectively.

Yeah, it is amazing that Samsung pretends that all is well with its 980 series SSDs but for months, owners have been complaining about serious issues (low write rate, etc.), nerfing its components later in its life and other questionable behaviors since the 980/970s release dates and it still took Samsung months to finally acknowledge the issues, like always, and many users are still having issues today.

But, hey, let's trust this PS5 980 w/heatsink (in the PS5, the 980 already has been benched and it delivers around 1.5gb / sec less than other SSD manufacturers) in a tiny space in the PS5, though!
