Samsung Electronics has announced that its 16-gigabit (Gb) DDR5 DRAM, which utilizes the industry's most advanced 12 nanometer (nm)-class process technology, has started mass production. The new 12-nanometer-class DDR5 DRAM offers a maximum speed of 7.2 Gbps, which Samsung has noted as being fast enough to process two 30 GB UHD movies in "about a second," as well as outstanding power efficiency, with reduced power consumption by up to 23% while enhancing wafer productivity by up to 20%. Samsung believes its newest DRAM will optimize next-generation computing, including artificial intelligence applications, with greater power efficiency and productivity.
