Samsung Display will be showing off a handful of new foldable devices during this week’s Display Week 2021 event. They include an S-foldable OLED display, a tablet-like device that can be folded twice into a smartphone-like form factor; a 17-inch foldable OLED display that seems to take a page out of Microsoft’s Surface Neo; and a slidable OLED display with a screen that can be extended horizontally. Samsung Display is also introducing an OLED laptop panel that hides its camera beneath the display for maximum screen coverage...

Does anyone actually want this?

It just seems like a silly and useless gimmick to me...
The creases in the display kill it for me (you can even see them in that photo there).

Flexible displays are cool and all, and I do kinda miss my flip phone, but that doesn't automatically mean the two need to go together.

I assume that the reduced size for carrying is a draw for some, but overall I'm looking at even more potential for failure due to the introduction of moving parts. I generally try not to buy the obviously less durable option when possible and in this case it's hard to see a market where this would be the preferred solution.

And then there's the hinges taking up space that could otherwise be used for processing power, battery volume, or heat dissipation.

I see these products as trendy 'beta' releases; there's real utility to be had if other obstacles are provably overcome. Someday.
