It could be a while before DDR4 is thoroughly superseded, but SK hynix is prepared for the transition. The memory giant has launched the world’s first DDR5 DRAM, which supports transfer rates of 4,800–5,600 Mbps. That makes DDR5 1.8 times faster than the previous generation.
DDR5 also boasts reduced power consumption thanks to a lower operating voltage. While DDR4 has an operating voltage of 1.2 V, DDR5 runs at 1.1 V. Additionally, SK hynix’s DDR5 memory features Error Correcting Code (ECC) for increased reliability.
