Sony is officially increasing the prices of its biggest next-gen titles. In a blog post celebrating the PlayStation 5’s $499/$399 price announcement, SIE President and CEO Jim Ryan revealed that the console would launch with three premium first-party titles priced at $69.99: Demon’s Souls, Destruction All Stars, and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition. While there are two $59.99 games on the list (e.g., Sackboy: A Big Adventure and the standard version of Spider-Man: Miles Morales), it’s clear that Sony plans to price its blockbuster titles at a premium going forward.

I'd be fine with the price point if I knew that DLC and microtransactions were being scaled back with the price increase. But I know that will not happen, so I may just be skipping this generation of consoles entirely. I was going to get a PS5, but now am probably not. Publishers have no one to blame but themselves for the exploding budgets. AAA game production is becoming unnecessarily bloated just like the movie industry.

By the way, a lot of people are upset at Walmart for jumping the gun on preorders last night after Sony had promised to not only "give a minute's notice." Of course, after Walmart started taking preorders early every other retailer had to jump the gun and it turned into a real fuster cluck.
