Sony Prepares for PS5 M.2 SSD Expansion Update with Detailed Specifications and Installation Instructions

Sony has published a support page that shows how PlayStation 5 owners can add an M.2 SSD to their next-gen console. The implication is that one of the system’s most highly anticipated features will be added very soon, possibly as part of the PS5 system software beta program’s next update. According to Sony’s support page, users who are interested in upgrading their storage should look for PCIe Gen4 x4 M.2 NVMe SSD drives ranging from 250 GB to 4 TB with M.2 types 2230, 2242, 2260, 2280 or 22110. The M.2 SSD should also feature a heat sink to ensure that temperatures don’t get out of control. As for tools, all that’s needed is a #1 Phillips or cross-head screwdriver...

So this means it has an empty M.2 Slot?
Yeah but it's been inactive this whole time. It's sounding like you won't be able to put just any M.2 SSD in there though, it has to be Sony-approved I think. Not quite the same freedom we had with SATA drives on PS3 and PS4.
