Sony to Enable PlayStation 5’s M.2 SSD Expansion Slot This Summer

Sony will allow PlayStation 5 owners to bolster their built-in storage by enabling the next-gen console’s M.2 expansion slot sometime this summer. The news comes from Bloomberg’s Takashi Mochizuki, whose sources noted that the update would also introduce higher fan speed settings for improved cooling so the console doesn’t overheat. These settings may increase the operating noise of the system, however.

I'm liking the m.2 expansion update - a little concerned about the fan tweaking. My PS5 has been whisper quiet, so there's definitely room for an increase in fan speed, just hoping its not set to 'jet fan'.
 
I'm liking the m.2 expansion update - a little concerned about the fan tweaking. My PS5 has been whisper quiet, so there's definitely room for an increase in fan speed, just hoping its not set to 'jet fan'.
Supposedly the PS5 fan controller is programmable, so you could even do per-game optimizations on fan speeds. It's not just a basic "Sense Temp, adjust Fan" PID loop like most are.
