PlayStation critics have argued that there’s no point in buying a PS5 yet because it barely has any next-gen games, but Sony is looking to reassure current owners that big things are headed to its latest console.

The gaming giant revealed today that it will be hosting a new PlayStation Showcase event set for Thursday, September 9, 2021 at 1 p.m. PDT / 9 p.m. BST. PlayStation owners are urged to tune in to see what’s next for the PS5.

According to Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Sid Shuman, the PlayStation Showcase will last 40 minutes and include updates from Sony’s first-party PlayStation Studios, as well as some of the industry’s “most imaginative” developers. Hasn't been a whole lot since it's release to be honest.

I've heard a bit about Returnal.... and... that's it.

It's always like this with consoles. They always need a few years to get the ball rolling, and start building a decent library - or really any library.

I played Returnal earlier this week, not bad, I do enjoy Housemarque games, but it's definitely no system-seller. Then again I won't consider a console until there are at least 5 must-have exclusives on the system. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is the first 9th-gen-exclusive game I really want to play, so potentially that might be the first of 5 for the PS5 for me. Of course I'm still hoping that PS5 exclusives end up on PC, even if they show up a few years after they launched on console.

Yar, this. This generation doesn't feel as bad to me but only because PS5 has B/C with PS4 (and there's a lot of PS4 titles I missed). Take away that PS4 compatibility and it'd be your typical paltry early lifespan console library.

With that said, looking forward to the Playstation showcase (and hopefully a peek at GoW 2).

I was fortunate to get a PS5 recently, and find the current library bland as well. Hopefully this showcase will be a good one.
