It's only been a few weeks since Square Enix confirmed that it had sold off Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal, and its other western studios and associated IPs for the arguably bargain price of $300 million to Embracer Group, but the company is already moving on with plans of how it'll strengthen its structure in the days ahead.

Hmm.

The prevailing rumor was they shed those studios to sweeten the pot for a Sony buyout.

It could be that because of those shed studios Sony walked away from the deal (Tomb Raider is a pretty substantial franchise all on it's own on consoles). But it does talk about tightening alignment with Tokyo, so I wouldn't entirely discount the Sony rumor as of yet.

S/E hasn't had much luck at trying to introduce new IPs at all. The last few originals off the top of my head: Babylon's Fall, Outriders.... and Forspoken just delayed until later this year.

Outriders was utter garbage, and Forspoken looks to be even worse. It has all the hallmarks of an asset flip. Of course in this case it isn't an asset flip but a fake project put together with minimal effort to increase their value to potential buyers. After all a publisher that has an AAA title almost ready is guaranteed ROI.
