How this piece of **** keeps getting renewed is beyond me.

The same way as kurtzman gets renewed. At this point I'm pretty sure the guy has some dirt on multiple execs, and basically gets to do whatever the hell he wants without regard to actual performance and roi. But we all know if discovery was a success as they say they'd not hide their view stats.

Well, we did have some streaming numbers from Canada and TV viewing figures in the U.S. where it did air on CBS. Granted, we don't know how well it performs on CBS All Access and whatever its on now, but the TV viewing figures and Canadian broadcast numbers put it down there with a lot of the CW Woke Comic shows that are swirling down the drain.

Their latest star trek panels had pathetic viewership. And it never trends even on twitter, which consists mostly of their supposed target audience.
It's obviously a flop, but as long as it premiers on all access they can keep pretending that it's a great success. The only question is the why do they keep burning money on it. It's obviously good business for kurtzman and co, because they get paid upfront. But CBS is either stupid or has other reasons to keep it going.

One of the more reccent shows on netflix that's actually worth watching now that the Marwel stuff is gone.

Not sure who netflix makes shows for these days but usually it's not for me, now they are about to raise their prices again, might cancell my sub this time.

CBS isn't really paying for it. I can understand why Kurtzman and company keep making them. It's profitable for them to do so. The surprise is how they keep getting investors to fund this dumpster fire unless they are able to somehow convince them viewership is good. What information we have from the public sources suggests, viewership is bad.

CBS or Paramount, doesn't matter who pays for it, the question is why. Someone convinced them that this is a subscriber magnet. And maybe it was for the first season, until people realized this has nothing to do with star trek, and it's terrible even as a random scifi show. Low cost shows like Dark Matter were infinitely better.

What I mean is, I can understand why CBS/Viacom continues to allow it. They don't really have any skin in the game. They aren't footing the bill for this disaster. The issue there is they don't care about the IP itself. Alex Kurtzman and company are getting paid, so that makes sense. What I don't get are the investors who do pay for it. How has Kurtzman and CBS managed to hide the abysmal viewer stats for so long?

Because the investors aren't directly paying for the show. They invest into paramount+, how they spend the money is up to cbs / paramount leadership. And Kurtzman and co somehow convinced them that this is somehow a success, or that they need to continue it because cancelling their "flagship" show would signal to the investors that the service is doomed.
