The opening ceremony for the Olympics traditionally begins with the Parade of Nations, whereby participating athletes march into a packed stadium, country by country. This year’s event held in Tokyo has been particularly entertaining for video game fans, as the organizers decided to complement the parade with various game soundtracks. They included Final Fantasy’s “Main Theme” and “Victory Fanfare,” Chrono Trigger’s “Frog Theme” and “Robo’s Theme,” and Sonic the Hedgehog’s “Star Light Zone.” Music from Bandai Namco’s Ace Combat (“First Flight”) and Soul Calibur (“The Brave New Stage of History”) franchises were also played. This is reportedly part of NBC’s attempt at attracting younger viewers to its Olympic broadcasts.

The opening had its moments, but generally sucked.
 
Honestly with the stringent restrictions in place and no spectators, it feels like as if the olympics is hosted by north korea.

I was expecting a few anime characters would make an appearance. Having Mario light the fire would've been awesome. 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
