Confirming last week’s rumors, Ubisoft has officially unveiled Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake. As its name implies, this is a “full-scale” remake of the original 2003 classic that not only features updated graphics, but new combat, puzzles, camera angles, and even captured performances as well. The game will be released on January 21, 2021 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC via Epic Games Store, Ubisoft Store, and UPLAY+ (sorry, Steam users).

You can check out the announcement trailer below. Unfortunately, long-time Prince of Persia fans don’t seem particularly pleased with the remake’s graphics, which seem...

Those are just the cutscenes, but it looks a whole lot better than the original did. People who are not impressed really need to go back to the original and see what that looked like. In 2003 we were playing on ATi Radeon 9000 series and NVIDIA GeForce FX series video cards, while the console generation consisted of the original Xbox, Gamecube, and PlayStation 2.

Interesting.

Did not realize Ubisoft owned that franchise now.

I haven't touched it since the 80's though.

Still cant get that sound the game made when you first dropped into the castle out of my head whenever I hear the words "Prince of Persia".

I forgot there had been respins of the franchise since then.

It was sold to Ubisoft way back in 2000 after the commercial and critical failure of Prince of Persia 3D. Sands of Time was the first game made by Ubisoft in the franchise. You should really check it out. It is considered one of the best games of all time by many, and the only one Ubisoft tried and succeeded at staying faithful to the original game concept. Unfortunately they started deviating from that formula with Warrior Within, focusing more on combat.

I vaguely remember hearing about other games in the franchise, but I had forgotten all about them.

Honestly, not really genre anymore, which is likely why I forgot about them.

Yea the article that claims the 2003 was the 'original' is all wrong sadly. I rally hate when people forget. Imagine if they released a revamped dodge Charger and said it was based on the original from 2015 or whenever they re launched that model? People would flip out.

OMG... that game, lol. I remember playing it on my 286 with a monochrome monitor. MONOCHROME! Do you know what red looks like in monochrome? It's black! It was like trying to play the game on sudden death difficulty. You never knew how many life points you had at any given time. 😂

I think I first tried it on my moms Toshiba laptop with a orange/black monochrome screen.

Yes it was terrible.

Once I got my own desktop 286 with a VGA card and color screen it was much better :)

Aww yeah. We had the demo running on the Tandy 1000's when I worked at Radio Shack when I was in high school (1989?) Good stuff.

Is this not a remake of the 360 version? I thought that one looked pretty good but it wasn't really dungeon based....

edit - ok google says Sands of Time was the OG xbox version, my bad

I really enjoyed Prince of Persia 2008, but Sands of Time is still the better game. All this talk is making me want to go back and play through 2008 again, though. I never played through the DLC that was never made available on the PC version.
