Ubisoft has finally agreed to release a new Splinter Cell game after years of demand from gamers clamoring for a flagship stealth-action title. The rumor comes from development sources, who told VGC that the game is being designed to win back fans who didn’t like the idea of the VR-only Splinter Cell project that was announced last year in partnership with Facebook. The last mainline Splinter Cell game, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, was released nearly a decade ago in August 2013.

It’s not clear which studios are working on the project, though two people with knowledge of Ubisoft’s plans suggested the new Splinter Cell was being led by a studio outside of its traditional Montreal base.The title is in an early phase of production, the sources said, but there’s a small chance it could be announced next year.
