Ubisoft Reduces Price of Rainbow Six Extraction to $39.99 Ahead of January 20 Release

Ubisoft has decided that it’ll be launching Rainbow Six Extraction at a lower price. The upcoming co-op shooter’s Standard Edition is already available for pre-order for $39.99, while the Deluxe Edition can be pre-purchased for $49.99. Featuring cross-play, cross-progression, and cross-save, Rainbow Six Extraction will be released for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, Amazon Luna, Stadia, and the Ubisoft Store on PC, as well as via Ubisoft+, on January 20.

The game is available now for preorder at a new, lower price of $39.99 for the Standard Edition, and $49.99 for the Deluxe Edition. You know, I almost wan to buy this to reward them for their more reasonable pricing approach.

Unfortunately I have no real interest in the Rainbow Six series.

I wonder if they are testing the Gabe Newell theory on pricing of Digitally Distributed Products, that when you have a product with negligible unit cost (like with digital distribution of games) you almost always make up for lower prices by increased volume.

In Gaben's example, reduce price by 75%, see total revenue increase by a factor of 40. Not 40% but 40 times greater.
