Ubisoft has turned one of its expansions for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla into a fully fledged, standalone title as a way of filling out its thin release schedule, according to sources with Bloomberg. Code-named Rift, the game is said to star Basim Ibn Ishaq, a character that Valhalla players should be pretty familiar with, being the reincarnation of trickster god Loki. Ubisoft’s new Assassin’s Creed game also reportedly marks a return to the stealth-oriented gameplay that defined earlier titles in the franchise.

They should make Splinter Cell instead. Oh but that would take effort and resources. Unlike another reskin of a game that already saw 3 reincarnations.

The sky is falling they are re using the same engine and other assets from a game to tell a continuing story!!! They are lazy and evil!!!!

It was supposed to be an add on that they are expanding on to make a full fledged game. I expect it to be more like AC origins with an Valhalla generation engine.

Origins -> Odyssey -> Valhalla, they already reused it thrice. And now they are turning what was intended as an expansion only into a stand alone game. That's the very definition of lazy.

While it is opprotunisitc we are not on the development side. It might keep costs down but I'll debate all day the assets used in AC Odyssey and the Assets used in valhalla are more different than alike. Plus the engine has seen advancements as well. So I disagree but that will wait until the final version to come to fruition to know.

I liked Odyssey and Valhalla, but I still think they are lazy titles. And turning an expansion into a stand alone title is greedy, and lazy regardless of it being good or bad. "Oh, this expansion is too good to keep as a DLC, let's make it into a stand alone full priced product" - the Bruce Willis of game publishing.
