Amazon told customers in November that it would no longer accept payments made with UK-issued Visa credit cards beginning this Wednesday, January 19.

Now, just two days before that date, Visa and Amazon are seemingly close to figuring out a deal that will allow customers with UK-issued Visa credit cards to continue using them on the world’s most popular etailer. Surprise surprise, Visa refused to negotiate, so Amazon said.. Fine then we won't give you our business. Visa Customers complained. They looked at what they would loose, now Visa is approaching it from protecting as much income as they can. When the worlds largest online marketplace threatens to not do business with you any more unless you renegotiate prices... You realize you're more dependent on them than they are on you.

Imagine if Amazon said... we're making a bank and an Amazon E-Card that you can put on your smart pay devices, You can link it to your existing checking account with whatever bank, OR get a actual Credit card through us to attach to it. It will be accepted on all Amazon transactions AND give you more protection from bad purchases. PLUS we are in negotiations to have it available at every retailer that has an Amazon marketplace presence as well. At NO charge to them.

Yea Visa was smart to step up and make this right. That threat is huge for them and could really reduce their bottom line. And Amazon would just spin it as a new business under the parent company umbrella to protect itself from anti competition challenges.

Didn't Wal-Mart try that a few years ago? I don't recall what happened with it.

Also, with as many Amazon gift cards as I get (and give) over the holidays - that may as well be hard cash, and could do 75% of what you talk about.

Walmart wanted to be a bank.... I don't know what happened, either it was blocked or paid off. A Walmart bank makes sense.
