Thanks to novel features such as Smart Delivery, Microsoft’s upcoming first-party exclusives (e.g., Halo Infinite, Hellblade 2) will be available for Xbox One owners to enjoy regardless of whether or not they decide to upgrade to Series X hardware. Sony, on the other hand, has different plans.

In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) President and CEO Jim Ryan mentioned that he had no interest in cross-generation support, largely confirming that PS5 exclusives wouldn’t be available on the PS4 and PS4 Pro. While the decision isn’t too surprising based on past history, it’s still somewhat of an interesting one due to the PS4’s massive, 100-million-plus install base, which has plenty...

"We have no respect for our customers and, like Nintendo, we will nickel and dime them to death every chance we get. While 95% of the games released in the next 5 years will be multiplatform and unlikely to be so specific to the Sony platform they won't be playable anywhere else at the quality intended we are still going to make up some bullshit about generational divide and our hardcore fans will eat it up without giving it a second thought. We at Sony believe that if you are truly a fan of a game you'll have no problem paying $60+ for the PS4 version then paying another $60+ for the "enhanced" PS5 version a year later."

This guys is completely full of ****, the way games are built now days a game can "easily" be made to take advantage of multiple generations of hardware. Having cross generation play doesn't mean a game can't take advantage of next generation hardware, it just means that once you buy the game you get all versions of it.

Just imagine buying a game for a console an being able to play it on your PC. Oh wait... Microsoft is doing that. **** that is decidedly non evil.

I’d like to think MS is doing that because it’s a cool thing to do and it really doesn’t take much technical effort to make it possible....

but the reality is that its borne of desperation, it’s what you do when your firmly stuck in last place and need a way to get some traction quickly.

i don’t believe for an instant MS would be doing this if the XB1 hadn’t essentially fell on its face.
