The next Windows 11 controversy has seemingly arrived. Critics of Microsoft’s upcoming operating system, particularly those who aren’t fans of the company’s new Chromium-based browser, have begun complaining about how Windows 11 seems to intentionally make it harder for people to distance themselves from Microsoft Edge and set Chrome, Firefox, or another browser as the default choice instead.



The controversy stems from the way in which Windows 11 handles default apps. In the past, users who installed a new browser would be met with a default app prompt in Windows with the easy option of hitting a single check mark (“always use this app”) to make it the default choice for opening websites and related file types.

I think they are hoping no one will notice... It's already got pretty bad in Win10 - first it was in-system calls that open a web browser ignore your browser of choice (Cortana links to the web, help files, etc), then they added some of those little widgets just recently that also only open in Edge when you click on them (headlines, news, etc). Now this.

It is very disappointing.

Edge may be a great browser, but if you are forcing it down my throat with poor backhanded tactics I'll never respect it or use it.

Well, eventually.....I think.......the FTC will notice and then....hello early 2000's again!
 
We should spam Microsoft’s social media accounts with the Netscape Navigator icon.
 
Well you don't do this too often, so as long as you can, and it doesn't switch it back with every update I guess this is a non issue.

I think they are hoping that the climate has changed since then, and they can get away with it now.

When Microsoft first lost this fight, they were the first to include a browser with their operating system.

Since then MacOS, Android, IOS, everyone does it.
