I hope Microsoft ends up making Xbox 360 games available as well.

This would have been good to have when I bought Crimson Skies a few years ago. After testing it on my original Xbox I played through it on my XB1. Well now I can play it on PC too. Officially I mean, cuz Xbox emulation has always been an option. Same for X360.

this (laptop) chip can be put into a steam machine like case running windows in big screen/xbox mode like the rog ally X

The idea is pretty straightforward: there's a unique key encoded in the thousands of different Xbox One and Xbox Series games that have been produced over the past 13 years. Once enrolled in the program, inserting a disc into an Xbox One or Xbox Series console uses that key to unlock a corresponding digital entitlement on your Xbox account, allowing you to play the game without the disc on Xbox One or Xbox Series consoles. You'll also be able to play Xbox Play Anywhere games on PC this way, or remotely access these titles via Xbox Cloud Gaming.

The critical thing here is that the programme still allows for used game sales, game borrowing and so on. If you buy a disc, convert it to digital, then sell it on, whoever inserts it next into their Xbox console will get the entitlement for their account and remove it from yours - which seems fair enough.
