Seasonic 12-Pin Power Adapter Leaked: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 to Require 850 W PSU?

Hardwareluxx and Bilibili users have shared images of a new Seasonic product called the “NVIDIA 12-pin PCIe Molex Micro-Fit 3.0 Connector.” They seem to confirm that one (or more) of green team’s upcoming RTX 30 Series GPUs will utilize a brand-new, 12-pin power connector, as previous rumors had suggested. Seasonic’s connector is designed to turn 2x 8-pin connectors into a single 12-pin connector.



The fine print at the bottom of the box is particularly interesting. “It is recommended to use a power supply rated 850 W or higher with this cable,” a portion reads. The implication is that the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 will require a...

Kind of a dinky looking connector for something that's got 800w flowing through it? OTOH if it works out maybe we all get smaller power connectors on all of our future video cards.

The recommended power supply is 850W, doesn't mean that is how much power that will be going through the cable. Going by NVIDIA's recommendation would mean the card uses around 330W. Minus the 75W from the PCI-E slot that is 255W left for the auxiliary cables, which is 21.25A at +12V.
