“All retail ROG Strix and TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3080 and 3090 graphics cards use only MLCC capacitors for decoupling close to the GPU,” a post on ASUS ROG’s Instagram account reads.

“During development, we discovered the improvement this makes to RTX 3090 and 3080 overclocking headroom, so we made specification changes before we started shipping cards to reviewers and customers.”

DER8AUER did a test on this and replacing some of the POSCAPS didn't really change anything. You gain a minimal increase in overclocking headroom at best. It seems to me that more testing and setting slightly lower boost clock limits would have made this a non-issue.

Der8auer's test showed that replacing the 2 center caps gave him 20-30mhz more stable boost. This may point to even higher stable speeds with all caps replaced. Of course, this will be known soon enough and his testing was far from scientific.
