Introduction




On June 9th, 2021 NVIDIA launched its updated and refreshed GeForce RTX 3070 Ti, extending the performance of the NVIDIA GA104 GPU that was the GeForce RTX 3070.  The GeForce RTX 3070 Ti Founders Edition has an MSRP of $599, which is $100 more expensive than the GeForce RTX 3070 with its $499 MSRP.  In our launch review, we took a look at a Founders Edition video card, and then we also overclocked it.

The PCB is made of thickened copper to provide better conductivity and heat dissipation.
Say What???? Typo maybe?
 
Makes sense to me that using thicker copper for the copper components/areas will conduct electricity and heat better.
That is true, except in a PCB the traces are ... pretty small. Going from 1mm to 2mm maybe an increase of 100%, but it still isn't all that much copper.

I mean, it's better than going smaller, but it's going to have a pretty negligible effect on overall heat dissipation. The vast majority of the heat is generated in the ICs and removed by the heatsinks, not on the traces or in the PCB - or at least unless they are doing it wrong.

Makes for great marketing jargon though.
