YouTube Premium Is the Latest Subscription Service to Get a Price Increase

I pay for Premium. The increase doesn't bother me. Wife and I watch a lot of creators that are only on YT. Getting rid of the ads is worth it alone.

Honestly - while I avoid going to the YT domain directly like the plague, if someone has en embedded video and I want to watch it (the latter is a rare occurrence but does happen), I don’t really notice what service it’s on, but I imagine some really really high percentage is YT

Bitchute is the worst alternative probably, when I tried it it would buffer every 5 seconds for me, making it absolutely unwatchable.
Well, bitchute I used rarely. Rumble and Rockfin are my 1 2. Both of those have improved a lot in a short time, maybe bitchute too. The common thing I find still is the search function could be better in any of them. I don't know how these companies go about this, about the search tool but I imagine it has to do with the fact that they may not have AI reading everything and such I suppose.

You know what... A web crawler is not an AI. something that parses information is NOT an AI. Something that puts the information back together in a new unique way that is understandable... that is where AI comes into play.

Regarless of term or actual tools deployed , I'm sure google has the capacity of actually 'watching' the video with their computers and doing better job at search ( and censor) due to this. All other players not being trillion dollar companies are likely reliant on older school search . Rumble's improved though, maybe they outsourced it (?).

Youtube search has been an utterly useless pile of garbage for years now, probably since they started manipulating the results. I get better results if I use google video search than by using youtube's built in search.

On PC you can do that with a web browser extension like uBlock Origin. On phone you can do that with ReVanced. Either way, doesn't cost a dime.

Are their channels/videos locked behind the YT Premium paywall?

We watch from Roku and Firestick. No ad blockers on there. Regardless, I don't mind the monthly fee for a service we enjoy.

That pretty much describes my relationship with YouTube, though I do know what service the videos are hosted from because the embedded videos are replaced by placeholders thanks to NoScript and uBlock Origin on Firefox. I can still play them; it just requires a couple of extra clicks. The extensions provide me with free Web Premium service.

The thought of making a deliberate effort to seek out YouTube content has never occurred to me. I don't know... maybe if I decide to take up knitting as hobby? But even in that case, it's more likely that YT would be accessed by an external or embedded link from some other source.

As much as I dislike Google, a different service provider wouldn't solve the issue that videos are too time-consuming and a poor medium for general communication — at least that is true for me. But they are used for everything.
