ASUS has published a new article detailing the ROG Maximus Z790 Apex Encore, its new record-setting motherboard for 14th Gen Intel Core and other LGA 1700 processors, and with it comes the confirmation that it comes with the ROG DDR5 Fan Kit, a high-performance fan that users can plug in to better tame the temperatures of their DDR5 memory. According to ASUS, this fan, which obviously works by directing air across the memory slots, is useful in that it helps improve DDR5 stability, making it "more than possible" for users to reach speeds of 8400+ MT/s with the right kits. The ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 Apex Encore is available now for $649.99, according to listings that can be found at Amazon, Newegg, and ASUS' own web shop.

I paid up for my current Asus Maximus Formula board, and honestly I plan to keep it for a while. I don't normally buy high end motherboards, but this was an exception at the time. I wouldn't do it again even though its been a great board. Prices on everything are getting worse.

Prices will need to come down across the board if makers want to sell product. No more free money for all.

I still am not used to these prices…
Price goes up quick because volume goes down quick - and the Apex, aside from being a perfectly awesome enthusiast board, is also the only board in ASUS' lineup to have all the enthusiast OC stuff and have an optimized two-DIMM layout.

It's a board for putting under LN2 and cranking the crap out of, both CPU and RAM.

For those wondering, if you're going to overclock memory, you definitely want some airflow. I don't recommend it from firsthand experience, but there it is.

Ditto. I think it is ridiculous, but if you are fair, cheaper boards can be had. It's just the fancy top end, everything included "GAMING RGB UP YOUR ***" models that cost that much.

Newegg right now has 15 different LGA1700 boards for under $100 and if you sort by price, you have to scroll almost to page 3 before they start hitting $150.

Now, not all of those are from brands I'd trust, but some of them look like they'd do in a pinch.
