Hi all,
Recently swapped my PC into a new case and with that added a new SSD (1TB) to replace an old one (500gig) that I gave to a friend.

I am not detecting the new SSD in my system... not in BIOS, not in Windows, not in Linux (POP_OS).
I've swapped the SATA cables, I've swapped SATA plugs into the MOBO, I've swapped the power cable, and as far as I can tell everything is plugged in appropriately & securely.

Am I missing anything to trouble shoot?

Is it safe to assume I got unlucky and this is DOA?

Thanks
Snowy

Just a high level guess ... did you double check to verify that the drive plug in to the MB isn't shared with something else (e.g., GPU or PCI slot)? Or that it needs to be enabled in BIOS?

My thoughts exactly. Something is consuming channels for some of the sata ports. Or they are disabled.

if all he did was change case and replace an existing drive this should not be an issue, could be a doa drive.

What's the make and model of the drive?

Unless there is an errant standoff causing a short against the back of the motherboard or something to that effect perhaps.

Well, probably a user error in the end. I did end up returning the drive as I couldn't figure out what was wrong, but it might have just been Windows needed to initialize it? Haha. When I returned it to just buy a larger M2 drive, Windows also didn't detect the M2 drive until I went to Disk Management and gave it a partition. (I swear I went into Disk Management with the SATA drive though!)
