Valve Reveals Steam Machine and Frame Requirements, Advises Developers That “Optimizing for Lower Spec Machines Expands Your Audience.”

Of the "big 3" I actually see AMD moving away from PC gaming, it has the most to gain moving to AI, even if they manage to grab the same market share they have in pc gaming, it would be orders of magnitud more profitable. And other than consoles, they are not dominant in any other market, so might as well.

On the other hand, why would nvidia leave the pc gaming when it has close to 95% of the market? not to mention all the other markets its dominant in just to focus on AI?

Steam does have a native OS X client, and there are a surprising amount native games — but nothing like SteamOS on AMD hardware (maybe about the same as Windows on Arm though?)

It’s the same conundrum we had when mining boomed —- if you can sell every single piece of hardware that you make at a higher margin, why do you bother continuing to support lower margin uses?

The constraint is manufacturing - they can’t just scale up fabs fast enough to support the demand, and the last time both nV and AMD tried to boost production the mining boom crashed and they had overstock gluts. So no one is gonna chase that.

Yea tell that to all of the FABs being built. They are investing to chase profit while they can. AI wants a lot of super powered devices in the market. Its better for AI and gives it more avenues to escape and wipe out humanity.

Sorry read "If anyone builds it everyone dies." Good read and interesting thought exercise and truly a cautionary tale.

We will see... amd will either go all in or it will just do minimal and focus on AI. I am starting to think that Steam should partner with Apple.

I mean apples current line of hardware is pretty decent. If they could get full steam support with their Linux experience for running games... that would be next level for consumers, especially in today's market.

Man... really if that happened.. wow would windows be in trouble.
Theres no need to partner with apple what they should do is piss in everyone's cheerios, engineer a dual x86 and arm cpu with amd graphics and grow steam into mobile gaming hehe
