  1. Piracy Causes a 20% Drop in Game Revenue, Denuvo DRM Research Finds

Putting aside this DEI discussion, which ... ok I get one guy really really really doesn't like it. I kinda just really realized the headline was piracy causes a drop in ~revenue~ Before I was just thinking sales count. But that isn't the same thing. So a game releases for $70. 4 months later...
  2. Console Graphics Have “Plateaued,” Former PlayStation President Says: “Only Dogs Can Hear the Difference”

I think you could say "Graphics" have plateaued. Not really any reason to differentiate between Console or PC really. I mean, sure, they have gotten better recently, but it's been by extremely small increments. The latest advances have mostly been in frame generation, which hasn't really been...
  3. Researchers Achieve 938 Gb/s Transmission Data Rate on 6G, 9000x Faster than 5G

I'm with @Shotglass01 -- still on LTE in most places, if I even get signal at all. 5G was nothing more than a big buzz word to go sell new phones - hasn't really done anything for me. It's kinda like new WiFi standards. Nice... but not really relevant until it's very old news and the next...
  4. Steam Begins Warning Players They’re Only Buying a License to a Game as California Launches New Consumer Protection Law Around Digital Purchases

This is true. GOG is playing it up because they have a few titles that will continue to work offline, but it’s still just a license to use there too.
  5. NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 Can’t Compete with the GeForce RTX 4090, It’s Claimed

I just saw another headline that said Blackwell was SOLD OUT for the next 12 months due to AI demand. So... starting up the FOMO machine early I guess. But things like this make me wonder... I didn't click the headline, nor do I feel the need to link it here to this audience.
  6. GIGABYTE Z890 Motherboards to Deliver True AI and Infinite Performance for Intel Core Ultra CPUs (Series 2) at the End of October

Time to buy and sue for false advertising. Get in on the class action action
  7. GOG Wants Gamers to Know Its Offline Installers Can’t Be Taken Away from You While Steam Reminds Them That Players Only Get a License to Play

I should try it with my Steam Deck - not sure what it does if I have 2 machines with games on at the same time
  8. Piracy Causes a 20% Drop in Game Revenue, Denuvo DRM Research Finds

DEI has always been a thing too, it's just had different names over the years. This quote is from 20 years ago, but still rings true. And it goes back waaay before that even. https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/1341459-political-correctness-is-america-s-newest-form-of-intolerance-and-it
  9. Intel Core Ultra 200S Series CPU Announcement – Specs and SKUs

I think I'm getting old. I'm more excited about getting new tires than I am computer parts any more.
  10. Konami and FIFA Sign Collaboration Agreement to Continue Their Worldwide Commitment to the Advancement of eSports

My son's highschool had an eSports team when he was a Freshman. He was all jazzed to join it until we pointed out - they don't play any of the games you play, and they expect you to be good at the ones they do play and he'd have to play them and practice them even if he didn't like the game. He...
  11. Piracy Causes a 20% Drop in Game Revenue, Denuvo DRM Research Finds

I would blame corporate boardrooms getting in the design process and doing Design by Whatever Buzzword is floating around at the time, rather than letting the producers/developers make the games they want to make. I'm not a fan of DEI by any means, but one soulless zombie coder is much the same...
  12. Tetris Forever Launches for PC and Consoles This Year with over 15 Games, Including All-New Tetris Time Warp

Huh. I was pretty sure the game was called Tetris, and it's just that. Just like you can have a bajillion variations of poker or solitare, but they are still Poker and Solitare. So maybe 15 variations? Maybe I'm just nitpicking.
  13. Konami and FIFA Sign Collaboration Agreement to Continue Their Worldwide Commitment to the Advancement of eSports

eSports hasn't died yet? I remember hearing about huge LoL and Overwatch tournaments and pro teams, but seems like all that kinda died off during covid and none of it has really popped back up on my radar. Maybe they are still a huge thing and my news feeds just don't pick up on them at all. I...
  14. Piracy Causes a 20% Drop in Game Revenue, Denuvo DRM Research Finds

This was my thought exactly. When I was young yeah we used to pass around floppies all the time - we didn't really think anything of it. But I haven't done any of that since I got out of a dorm - It started out as too much hassle to find a working copy, then turned into many rips loaded with...
  15. Microsoft OneDrive Announces 5 TB and 10 TB Cloud Storage Tiers, Coming by End of 2024 for Microsoft 365 Personal and Family Customers

Google knows https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/how-can-i-access-onedrive-folders-files-from-linux/dd8be09b-ddad-434c-bdc7-a15cde410231 Looks like the two best methods are "rclone" - it's basically rsync, but can also emulate the way Windows connects and looks like a local...
  16. Intel Core Ultra (Series 2) “Arrow Lake-S” CPU Prices Leak Out, including 285K for $589

I’m not actively avoiding it… But it also bears no weight in my purchasing decisions either
  17. Microsoft OneDrive Announces 5 TB and 10 TB Cloud Storage Tiers, Coming by End of 2024 for Microsoft 365 Personal and Family Customers

I don’t see why it wouldn’t. An encrypted backup would just be any other file… .tgz up a dd dump of your encrypted drive and stuff it over. They support Bitlocker to some extent with OneDrive but not sure exactly how that works (wouldn’t trust them not to mine through their own encryption tho)
  18. Upgrade Deal Alert: AMD AM4 Processors at All Time Lows

Yeah while it was noted above, it was overlooked in your conclusion - and leaving me to think there were no informed choices that could be made in my life without a Microcenter being nearby (Not far from the truth sometimes)
