  1. AMD Says It Will No Longer Go after the Flagship Gaming GPU Market as NVIDIA Continues to Dominate with 88% Market Share

I agree 100% on AI products as the focus. If you haven't been watching the AI announcements recently, there are many, and some estimates of >10x growth in hardware demand by 2027. I'd be slightly surprised if gaming hardware growth was much more than 10% by 2027. NVidia, AMD, and Intel will...
  2. PS5 Pro’s $700 Pricing Blamed on “Lack of Competition” as Polls Suggest Most Players Won’t Be Buying Sony’s New System

I think the initial high price is very much the ideal situation for manufacturers that are having their product scalped day 1. Why let the scalpers get all the profit? Come out with a price 2x - 3x what you would normally charge, let the scalpers eat the inventory at huge profit, and then...
  3. Nobody Is Buying AMD Ryzen 9000 Series “Zen 5” CPUs, It’s Claimed

The 5000x3d series on AM4 is actually pretty solid price to perf wise. The 5700x3d is $200 and you can drop it in many old AM4 motherboards. Sold a buddy my old 2700X + x470MB + 32GB ram for a song, and he flashed the bios and dropped in a 5700x3d. a 4tb Samsung 990pro. and a 4060. Hard to...
  4. Nobody Is Buying AMD Ryzen 9000 Series “Zen 5” CPUs, It’s Claimed

Same here. The 5950 normally just crunches distributed computing, but I game on it every now and then. A 9950x3d really would be the best of both worlds and a decent upgrade to boot.
  5. MSI Unleashes a Symphony with Its Latest Gaming Headset, Featuring High-Resolution 40mm Neodymium Drivers

I'd agree with this 100%. Mic built into the headset is not optional, especially if I'm moving from my work PC to my Game PC with the same headset.
  6. MSI Unleashes a Symphony with Its Latest Gaming Headset, Featuring High-Resolution 40mm Neodymium Drivers

This kind of info is fantastic. So maybe less a deep dive in gaming headsets, but more a "forget the gaming stuff, here is how to build something much better". Kind of like comparing a AIO to a custom water cooling build.
  7. MSI Unleashes a Symphony with Its Latest Gaming Headset, Featuring High-Resolution 40mm Neodymium Drivers

You guys should do a headset deep Dive. I’ve been using a Kingston hyperX cloud (or something) I got at a microcenter Black Friday sale like 7 years ago. They are fine, but not amazing, and are wearing quite a bit…. But they were $25. I’d really like a wireless that I can move between my work...
  8. Kingston Delivers High-Capacity 4×4 NVMe PCIe Performance with NV3 PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD

I'm not even sure you really need the DRAM - how much penalty is there for a cache miss and then loading from TLC vs directly loading from MLC or SLC? At this point I should just look into enterprise SLC drives. There must be a 512GB or 1TB SLC drive out there somewhere.
  9. AMD Ryzen 5 7600X3D Launched as a $299.99 Micro Center Exclusive

I would challenge the idea that you can't do a higher TDP processor on Air. I've got a 5800X3D on my ancient Noctua D15 and it hasn't been an issue. I know quite a few people in my distributed computing discord are using the Thermalright Peerless Assassin / Phantom Spirit on chips like the 7950.
  10. NVIDIA Launched the World’s First GPU 25 Years Ago

Was the Radeon the best 2d card at the time? I ended up going with a Matrox 2d card as I recall, but THAT is one aspect of my old system I don't remember anymore.
  11. NVIDIA Launched the World’s First GPU 25 Years Ago

It’s amazing how fast things were changing back then. I replaced the sli voodoo 2s with a GeForce 2 ultra, and upgraded the pi 400 to a pentium 3 700 with that GeForce 2 ultra in fall 2000. It was my first water cooled processor, as I put it on a 133 FSB and needed water to keep it stable...
  12. NVIDIA Launched the World’s First GPU 25 Years Ago

100% agree. My fondest gaming memories are from my P2 400 system with SLI Diamond Monster Voodoo 2 12mb and a raid zero set of ultra wide SCSI 9.1GB 10k seagate cheetah drives. I got the pII 400 at release, having saved up the entire summer of 1997 and then all my after school job money in the...
  13. Sid Meier’s Civilization VII Reveals February 2025 Launch Date and Game of Thrones Star as Its New Narrator

Did you somehow channel exactly how I feel about it and write the post before I could? It’s entirely possible I’ve spent more time between civ2 and 3 than I have any other 2 games. Toss in Masters of Orion 2, and you probably have my most 3 played games of all time.
  14. Raspberry Pi 5 Family Expands with New 2 GB Variant Priced at Just $50

I mean, if I need 2GB or less of ram, why would I spend $10 more? I’ve actually been buying 8gb pi 5s, but I’ve been slow adding them to my distributed computing setup. Thinking about it, 4GB model may be the odd one out. If you need ram or don’t really know what you need, just spend the 79...
  15. Raspberry Pi 5 Family Expands with New 2 GB Variant Priced at Just $50

Purpose built use case. Ex, I really don’t need more than 2GB for a pi hole, and I can even run some distributed computing on it with 2GB
  16. Addlink Launches NAS D60 (1.92 TB) M.2 Gen 4×4 and NAS D20 (15.36 TB) SATA III SSD Solutions for NAS Storage

Raid 0 all 10 of those and you could even have a windows boot drive. I’m using some old small SSDs for my truenas box, so I totally get the use case. I should go look and see if there are more of those available
  17. AMD Ryzen 9000X3D Series Expected to Sell Like “Hot Cakes,” Japanese Retailers Say

If the non X3D models are no faster than the 7000 series, is there any expectation X3D will be any faster? If it’s not faster, why expect strong sales?
  18. AMD Will Increase Ryzen 7 9700X and Ryzen 5 9600X TDP from 65 to 105 Watts via AGESA 1.2.0.1a BIOS Update, It’s Claimed

I really want both. I want power efficient and maximum performance per watt when I’m just running distributed computing. But when I’m gaming, I want full performance regardless of power. AMD has been close, but I have to reboot to switch between eco mode and full over drive. If I could just...
